Visitors to the Petersen Automotive Museum will now get an even more elaborate experience as the Vault has now been reopened after years of renovations. The Vault, which holds some 250 vehicles, has for the first time ever, agreed to allow visitors to take photos and videos during their visiting. With a focus on Motorsports, the Vault's new Motorsports section displays legendary cars such as "Pole Position: The Juan Gonzalez Formula 1 Collection,” as well as notable motorcycles, trucks, and iconic vehicles spanning over 120 years of automotive racing history." Now that photography is allowed on the self-guided Vault tours, shutterbugs should be flocking to finally get a chance to photograph some legendary cars, some of which have rarely ever seen the light of day, including a concept Mustang hardtop convertible, the first Viper ever made that Dodge took to dealers to get them familiar with the product, and the Audi R8 from the first "Ironman" movie complete with a blown up engine.

Some of the rare cars you'll get to see in the vault include, an ultra-rare Jaguar XJ220, an all-Gold Delorean from the Nieman Marcus Christmas catalog, only 3 of which were ever sold, Sadam Hussein's Mercedes 600, a 1998 Cadillac Deville specially built for the Pope's visit to Mexico City, the Ferrari 308 from Magnum P.I., a 1967 Honda N600 the first car Honda ever imported into the United States, and a super cool Ford Probe called the Probe 5 which was meant to look extremely futuristic and give a glimpse as to what the future of Ford would look like back in the 1980s with a full glass canopy gull-wing doors and with a mid-engine design. The list of special and truly unique cars on display at the Petersen Automotive Museum and especially in the Vault, is too long to even begin to catalog, and now that photographs are allowed, this certainly has become a must-visit stop for anyone coming to southern California.
