In Jeep's model range, the Wrangler has matured into a true icon. Since 1989, the Wrangler has carried the baton of the original Willys MB into the future and is virtually the only model in the lineup of the American off-road vehicle manufacturer to hold the quintessence of the brand aloft. So it's no wonder that exactly 20 years ago, the Wrangler was the only Jeep model to enjoy the Rubicon equipment line, named after the famous and infamous off-road trail in California. To mark the upcoming anniversary, Jeep is now presenting the Rubicon 20th Anniversary Edition, a special model that can be combined with both the 4xe and 392 powertrain variants but will only be available on the market in limited numbers.

The Rubicon 20th Anniversary Edition, which will continue to be available exclusively for the Wrangler, is primarily concerned with upgrading the visual appearance of the off-roader. Most noticeable are the additional elements at the front, where Jeep adds a new interpretation of the seven-piece grille with a triple-framed grille guard and bolts additional steel bumpers. The integrated off-road camera, which is intended to provide additional viewing angles in the terrain, and a tool kit with 83 parts, which should equip the driver for the toughest missions and their consequences, are visually more inconspicuous.

The interior is dominated by cockpit applications in the classic red and black Rubicon contrast, which extend to the leather seats that are also installed. This is reminiscent of the first Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, which in 2003 featured the sporty contrast of red and black inside and out. Speaking of the original Rubicon, Jeep says a small group of enthusiastic engineers at the time designed the most capable Wrangler to date on their own dime, giving Jeep customers the model they had been waiting for.

In addition to the visual upgrades, there are, of course, also technical improvements. For example, Jeep raises the suspension by half an inch and mounts special rims that can be equipped with bead locks. Also available as an option is a Level II upfit from American Expedition Vehicles (AEV), which includes 37-inch off-road tires, a winch, and other technical upgrades for tough off-road use.

While Jeep is not yet giving exact production figures for the Rubicon 20th Anniversary Edition, it does indicate that there will be a limited number of units of the special edition model. This is especially true for the optional AEV Level II upgrade package, which will be limited to just 150 units and thus not available to all 20th Anniversary Edition customers. An anniversary price, on the other hand, will have to be paid by all customers of the special Rubicon model. For the 392, it starts at just under $70,000, for the 4xe, even over $90,000 will have to be paid. If the limited Level II upgrade package is added, which costs just under $21,000 with conversion, the $100,000 mark will be reached. However, even this should not deter enthusiasts from placing an order, which is now possible.
