In recent years, the growing global demand for SUVs has also benefited a closely related vehicle category — that of genuine off-roaders. It's good when a manufacturer has had the right product in its model range for some time and can therefore respond quickly to the growing demand. This is what happened with Jeep, which has been offering its Wrangler off-roader — unrivaled for most of its range — since 1987 and is now selling it in its fourth generation with growing success. For a long time, potential competitors kept a low profile before Ford seized the opportunity in 2020 and brought the Bronco back to North America with great success. But if General Motors has its way, the two big rivals may not be left alone with their offerings for much longer. In any case, the in-house design studio has now published a sketch of an off-roader from Chevrolet that definitely whets the appetite for a production version - probably even all-electric.

The sketch of the off-roader was published on the official Instagram account of General Motors Design and comes from Dylan Schmidt, who is a Creative Designer at General Motors. Even though there is no brand logo visible at first glance, the tail lights of the off-roader in a horizontal V-shape speak very clearly for a Chevrolet. So the model could actually be the true remake of the Blazer, which would not have mutated into an SUV, but a genuine off-roader.

The sketch from the top-down perspective only gives a rough overview of the model, but at least shows which direction Chevrolet's design could take in the coming years. The side profile is robust with straight surfaces and angularly flared town halls, while the off-road tires housed inside provide a nice contrast. The roof is also visually appealing with its black contrasting color, which harmonizes well with the green bodywork and gives the model that certain touch of visual adventure.

Without side windows and a real roof section, you can also catch a good glimpse of the interior. Here you can see four individual brown sports seats that harmonize well with other green elements in the interior. The enormous spare wheel in the luggage compartment is particularly eye-catching, albeit at the expense of cargo space.

A closer look also reveals that the model could actually be a purely electric off-roader. If you look closely between the two rows of seats, you won't see a center tunnel, which could indicate that the off-roader is driven by at least two separate electric motors on the front and rear axles to generate its standard all-wheel drive. Of course, this is just speculation, but a hint worth pursuing further.

While purely electric versions of the Wrangler and Bronco are still waiting in the wings, General Motors could enter a real market niche and roll up the market from behind. Suddenly, the brand would no longer be the runner-up but the first to take off.
