The ‘Blazer’ is an iconic nameplate that’s been used by Chevy since the late 1960s. It has been used on a variety of vehicles since the beginning, and it is now ready to step into the EV-olution. Chevy has coined its latest EV ‘Blazer’, and from what we know so far, the name is justified. With over 550 horses at your disposal and up to 320 miles of range, the Chevy Blazer EV might be the dark horse that every automaker out there needs to beware of. Chevy revealed the 2024 Blazer EV recently, and here’s everything you need to know about it.:

Looks Smart And Bold

The 2024 Blazer EV will be offered in four trims - 1LT, 2LT, RS, and SS. The SS marks the introduction of the first ever electric performance car to wear the iconic moniker. The use of the ‘Blazer’ moniker for a rather utilitarian product drew a lot of flak back then, but it seems to be justified here, especially in the SS guise.

In terms of aesthetics, it’s very similar to its namesake internal combustion-engined 2021 Chevy Blazer that came out in 2019. However, it is not just an electrified version of the same. The Blazer EV rides on GM’s Ultium platform that has and will underpin other electric products as well. The Blazer EV doesn’t look too overboard or desperate. It is hot-looking naturally, and the top-spec models look even more drool-worthy.

The RS and the SS benefit from an LED bar and illuminated bowtie up front. The face itself is heavily inspired by the Chevy Camaro, which isn’t a bad thing, but it didn’t work on the standard Blazer. Will it change perceptions this time around in the EV avatar? Well, we’ll have to wait and watch.

The rear looks pretty neat, too, maintaining the sharp, heavy-on-cuts-and-creases aura. Is anyone else getting some strong Lexus LC500 vibes here or is it just me? Depending on the trim, the electric Blazer rides on 19- to 22-inch wheels. The dimensions are yet to be revealed, but expect them to be similar to the fuel-powered Blazer. For your reference, the standard Blazer that’s currently on sale is 191.4 inches long, 76.7 inches wide, and 67 inches tall. The wheelbase measures 112.7 inches and it sits 7.4 inches above the ground. Expect the Blazer EV to measure similarly, give or take a few inches in every aspect.

A Smart, Practical, Tech-Heavy Cabin

The cabin doesn’t feel outdated in any way, but it’s not as futuristic as some EVs out there either. As per the new EV standards, the Blazer EV’s interior feels cluttered, but we’ll prefer some physical buttons and knobs over everything being controlled via the touchscreen system. Speaking of the touchscreen, the Blazer EV comes with a massive 17.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system across the range. It is complemented by an 11-inch digital instrument cluster.

Opt for the higher trims and you can get yourself stuff like a flat-bottom steering wheel, turbine-inspired sculpted air vents, ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof etc. These trims also come with sweet upholstery options and details, like red contrasting stitching on the RS and suede microfiber seating on the SS. Interestingly, the Blazer EV doesn’t have a push-start button. Instead, you get a hands-free start, wherein you just have to step on the brake pedal once you close the door and you’re ready to go. The key fob authorizes the hands-free start system here. Did we mention the Blazer will also feature Super Cruise hands-free technology?

Up To 190 kW Fast Charging, 320 Miles of Range

The Blazer EV will be offered with three different battery packs, although the capacities aren’t mentioned yet. The range varies from 247 miles to 320 miles. The midsize electric crossover will support 11.5 kW onboard AC charging for home and public charging, as well as DC fast-charging of up to 190 kW. In this case, it will be able to add up to 78 miles of range in approximately 10 minutes. The times for the slower charging are yet to be revealed.

“The low center of gravity and wide track brings added stability and makes the Fisker Ocean a perfect clean sustainable utility vehicle, that can be used by international organizations, which need to deploy rescue vehicles in rural areas, it can also be used as a zero-emission military version to transport military personnel, as oil is one of the largest expenses for the military.” All About?

Chevy Is Looking To Sell The Blazer EVs To Polices Forces

It’s not just individual owners that are switching to EVs; even armed forces and government agencies will replace their ICE cars with EVs at some point. Chevy already has eyes on them as it announced that the Blazer EV will be offered as a Police Pursuit Vehicles (PPV) as well. Here’s what the PPV models will look like:

- Based on the top-spec SS trim

- Available in RWD or AWD layouts

- Largest Ultium batteries

- Brembo brakes up front

- Purpose-designed cabin

It’s not just the police departments that Chevy is targeting; the automaker plans to offer the Blazer EV for other commercial and fleet customers as well, like rental, pharmaceutical, and so on.

The Blazer EV is not the first electric model that is catered to government agencies. Fisker had also made its intentions clear when it revealed the ‘Force E’ package on its Ocean EV. Henrik Fisker noted that “The low center of gravity and wide track brings added stability and makes the Fisker Ocean a perfect clean sustainable utility vehicle, that can be used by international organizations, which need to deploy rescue vehicles in rural areas, it can also be used as a zero-emission military version to transport military personnel, as oil is one of the largest expenses for the military.”

Even Rivian filed for a patent back in 2019 that indicated its vehicles being built for the police forces. The patent revealed a new design that basically loses out on the lower side supports on the backrest. This would allow the officers to sit with ease since the holsters and other gear won’t cause them discomfort. It will also lead to easy ingress and egress when they are carrying weapons.

The Chevy Blazer EV Will Arrive In 2023

As is with most EVs out there, the Blazer EV will also arrive at different points. The mid variants, 2LT and RS, will arrive first in the summer of 2023. The top-spec SS will follow them later in 2023. The 1LT and PPV fleet models will be the last to arrive in the first quarter of 2024. When it rolls out, it will go up against the likes of the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Tesla Model Y, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, and even the Cadillac Lyriq.
