The Aprilia RS 660 is arguably the finest middleweight sports bike you can buy. It has a punchy engine, an electronics package no less than flagship sports bikes, and a gorgeous mini-RSV4-like design. But things can always get better, and they just did because the uber-limited RS 660 Trofeo has set foot in America. Only a handful of these will go on sale (the Italian bikemaker hasn’t revealed the actual number), each one loaded with top-shelf components to obliterate racetracks.

The Aprilia RS 660 Trofeo Is Wrapped In Race Bodywork

Only a fixed number of Trofeos will bless the American market

Since this is a track-only motorcycle, Aprilia has binned all road-legal components for the Trofeo. There are no headlights, tail lamps, number plate holders, or mirrors and even the plastic fairings have made way for race-ready fiberglass bodywork. Thanks to all the deletions, the motorcycle weighs 337 pounds (dry), nearly 35 pounds less than the road-going RS 660.

Tucked behind the fairing is a reprogrammed TFT instrument cluster that allows you to access the APRC rider aids. These include wheelie control, traction control, and engine brake adjustment, all tweaked to racing standards. You also get a quickshifter (up only) and dedicated race switchgear from Jet Prime.

The Aprilia RS 660 Trofeo Gains Five Horsepower

Even the stock switches have made way for race-only controls

Under the race body, the Trofeo hides the same 660cc, twin-cylinder engine from the RS 660. Not without notable changes, though, as it features a race ECU, Sprint racing filter, and an SC-Project titanium full-system exhaust. Together, these bump the output to 105 horsepower, five ponies more than the road model. That’s not a lot but should come in handy when you’re chasing tenths on the track.

As for underpinnings, the stock KYB forks have been upgraded with Misano by Andreani cartridges while a top-shelf Öhlins AP948 remote reservoir shock takes over at the rear. This is topped by upgrades to the Brembo braking setup and Pirelli Supercorsa V3 SC1 tires. Oh, and when you put all this to use, you’d also appreciate the tweaked chassis, adjustable clip-on, and billet rear-set footrests.

The Aprilia RS 660 Trofeo Costs Twice As Much As The RS 660

It has no road-legal parts

Yes, you read that right. Aprilia USA has priced the RS 660 Trofeo at $21,000, almost double the RS 660’s $11,499 MSRP. That’s a lot of money for a middleweight sports bike, and a tad surprising since the Trofeo sells for under $17,000 at Aprilia’s FactoryWorks portal. Not to mention, the price tag is $2,000 more than Aprilia’s own flagship, the 217-HP RSV4 1100. Nevertheless, if you dig twins and racing, it’s safe to say there’s nothing quite like this in the market, and we believe that justifies the price to an extent. If that makes sense to you, head here on April 11, 2023, to book your Trofeo.
