One of the main concerns when it comes to electric vehicles is the range. Just like with ICE vehicles, it is no fun starting a trip and not knowing if your car will have enough juice to finish the trip. And, while models like the Mazda MX-30 will make you not want to leave the city because of the very limited 100 miles of range, the anxiety goes away when you are behind the wheel of a model like the Lucid Air that stores enough energy for a 516-mile trip. But, from one extreme to the other, there are many other electric vehicles that you should feel comfortable enough with to take on a long journey. Ranging from luxurious sedans to high-performance off-road trucks, here’s a list of electric vehicles with the best range for the 2023 model year.

The Rivian R1T is one of the best electric trucks money can buy right now. The R1T is offered in two powertrain configurations: the base Dual-Motor trim delivers a total of 600 horsepower, while the Quad-Motor setup increases the output to 835 horsepower. The truck is currently offered with two different battery packs: the Standard Pack that delivers a total of 260 miles of range, and a Large Pack that increases the range to 328 miles. Later this year, Rivian will launch a "Max Pack" with a 180-kWh battery pack that will supposedly generate a maximum range of over 400 miles. Also, because of its great four-wheel-drive system, the R1T is an amazing off-roader, can tow up to 11,000 pounds, and has a payload capacity of 7,700 pounds. Pricing for the Rivian R1S starts from $74,800.

9 2023 Rivian R1S - 328 miles

As was to be expected, the Rivian R1S electric SU is just as good as the R1T electric pickup truck. The two models share not only the exterior and the interior look, but also the electric powertrain and the battery packs. So, just like the R1T, the R1S SUV can be had in two powertrain configurations - the base Dual-Motor trim with 600 horsepower and the Quad-Motor version, but with only 750 horsepower and 829 pound-feet of torque. The SUV gets the same battery packs too: the Standard Pack with 260 miles, and the Large Pack with 328 miles. However, for the R1S, the Max Pack is expected to be made available sometime in early 2024. Unlike the R1T, the R1S has a towing capacity of up to 7,700 pounds – which is still better than most of its competitors. The Rivian R1S starts from $79,800.

The new GMC Hummer EV is not only a very capable electric truck, but also one of the most luxurious EVs you can buy in 2023. However, for the 2023 model year, only the Hummer EV Edition 1 is available at a price of $110,295. It is powered by three electric motors that deliver a combined 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of torque. The Hummer EV's Ultium battery pack ensures a range of 329 miles - not bad at all for a truck that comes equipped with the Extreme Off-Road package. The Hummer EV also benefits from fast charging through the 800-volt architecture, which allows you to add nearly 100 miles of range in 10 minutes of charging. Once the other Hummer EV trims will be launched, GM promises a range of up to 350 miles.

For the 2023 model year, the Tesla Model Y is offered in two trims: Long Range and Performance. The Long Range is powered by a Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive system that delivers a combined 384 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque, while for the Performance model, the total output is increased to 456 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. As expected, the Model Y Performance is focused more on performance figures, and less on efficiency, so it goes from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and offers a range of 303 miles. The Model Y Long Range, however, as the name suggests, sees performance sacrificed in the name of efficiency. As such, the Model Y Long Range goes from 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds and offers a range of 330 miles. Prices start from $54,990 for the Long Range and from $58,990 for the Performance.

Its E-GMP platform supports both 400V and 800V charging capabilities as standard, which means the model can recharge from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes. The Ioniq 6 delivers anywhere between 140 and 320 horsepower, and it is priced between $41,600 and $56,100.

One of Tesla's first electric vehicles built truly for the masses, the Model S, is still one of the most efficient EVs on the market. After all, it had more than 10 years to evolve. Just like the Model X, the Model S is offered in either standard or Plaid trim, with power going up to 1,020 horsepower. As you probably know, the Model S Plaid is a very fast sedan: it only needs 1.99 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph, but it is also very fuel efficient with a range of 396 miles. But the most efficient Model S is the base model with a total range of 405 miles – which puts it way ahead of models like the BMW i7 which only offers a range of 318 miles. Pricing for the 2023 Tesla Model S ranges from $89,990 for the base model to $109,990 for the Plaid.

With power ranging from 480 to 1,200 horsepower, the Air also promises a range of 516 miles in the Grand Touring Performance trim. It is the same model that can take you from 0 to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds.
