Ducati is by far the most iconic Italian motorcycle manufacturer in the world, thanks to its rich heritage. In 2007, the company decided to celebrate its roots and introduced a special Tricolore edition of its then flagship sportbike, the Ducati 1098 S.

After fifteen odd years, one of the only 1,013 1098S Tricolore’s which went into production has popped up at Iconic Motorbike Auctions and it’s arguably one of the best usable yet brag-worthy old sportbikes we’ve seen in a long time.

2007 Ducati 1098S Tricolore

As I mentioned above, the Ducati 1098S was the company’s flagship sportbike back in the day. Birthed from the iconic Ducati 999, it featured updated engine internals, suspension, and a new design to help it justify the flagship tag.

Starting with the design, the Ducati 1098S Tricolore is a beautiful machine even today. It comes wrapped in a special red, white, and green livery inspired by Italy’s National Flag topped off by golden Marchesini alloy wheels, all of which make it special and unique as ever, considering this was on sale only for a year.

Livery aside, the 1098S Tricolore also featured several carbon fiber parts like a tank pad, rear tire hugger, front fender, and a few fairing parts. Not to forget, it gets a race-only carbon fiber Termignoni exhaust system too, which makes the already sweet-looking tail section even sexier.

It’s worth noting, though, that there are a couple of very minute blemishes on the front hugger and the side panels. Not a deal-breaker for sure, but hey, it’s our duty to inform you.

Complementing the striking design language is the bike’s impressive cockpit featuring a fully digital instrument cluster that shows time, air temperature, coolant temperature, speed, and odometer. Oh, and in case you’re wondering the odo has 5,994 miles on it.

Next, we come to its mechanicals. The 1098S Tricolore draws power from a 1098cc Testastretta Evoluzione engine. This motor was based on the 999cc engine seen on the Ducati 999 but packed a bigger bore and stroke, along with an updated exhaust, intake, and new cylinder heads to eke out an impressive 160 horsepower from it. Thanks to these updates, the engine here was 11 lbs lighter than the previous models.

The motor is housed in a trellis frame that’s coupled to Ohlins suspension at both ends alongside an Ohlins steering damper. Meanwhile, a full Brembo braking system helps cut down speed while Pirelli Rosso III rubber ensures proper grip in all conditions.

Apart from all the standard bits and pieces, the previous owner has equipped this particular 1098S Tricolore with an aftermarket triple clamp, adjustable rear sets, bar-end mirrors, adjustable racing levers, and a see-through metal clutch cover.

However, if you aren't a fan of these extra tidbits, the bike does come with all of its standard parts.

What’s The Price?

The latest bid on this special 1098S is $8,600 at the time of writing this. Now, this would be a steal deal at this price, but the reserve price hasn’t been met yet. If you’re sold on this, though, you can head to Iconic Motorbike Auctions and place your bid.
