Back in 2020 Alpha Motor Corporation, a privately owned American EV company was established. In its few years of existence, they’ve already designed a lineup of well over a dozen vehicles driven by its ‘Move Humanity’ philosophy. Based in Irvine, California, Alpha Motors wants to fill in a couple of gaps in the EV industry that’s projected to have a global market size north of $1 Trillion by 2028. It wants at least the base of its lineup to be composed of affordable EVs, and it wants to make EVs feel the world has always wanted to see, but no one has made yet.

Tesla’s futuristic-looking Cybertruck is coming close to reaching the production stage, and unlike outlandish and forward-thinking vehicle designs of the past, which missed the mark precisely for looking too futuristic, the Cybertruck seems to have hit the nail on the head based on its positive reception. As of November 2022, the Cybertruck has reached the mark of 1.5 million pre-orders. Legacy automakers are coming up with electric pickup trucks that are similar looking to the ICE counterparts they are going to replace. Alpha, on the other hand, is taking a slightly different approach with its own EV pickup truck lineup, the Alpha Wolf.

The EV Market Is Growing Fast, And The Alpha Wolf Will Find Its Place

It’s amazing to see the way the market is shifting and how what once was the strength of a company suddenly becomes its weakness, and how newcomers get to take full advantage of their position as a startup in a rapidly growing EV market. Legacy automakers are struggling to understand how fast things are moving and are now committing to hundreds of billions of dollars in investments to switch their whole infrastructure from ICE to EV production. New companies like Alpha have the luxury of starting without biases, gathering a pool of talents and resources already tuned in and focused on creating innovative EV solutions, not only for their vehicles but also for their production lines.

The Wolf from Alpha Motor Corporation is a perfect example of that. It was conceived from the ground up with an EV platform in mind, and unlike the Cybertruck, it took a completely different exterior design approach. The Alpha Wolf’s exterior looks follow that modern-retro philosophy and boast a very rugged, capable, and rooted feel to it, while still managing to be drop-dead gorgeous. Alpha Motor’s pickup lineup consists of three models. The Wolf, the Wolf+, and the Superwolf. Based on their ‘down to earth’ looks, features, and capabilities, and the fact that they also should be reaching the production stage soon, albeit sometime after Tesla’s Cybertruck hits the market, it may be time to reconsider that hundred-buck reservation with Tesla.

The Alpha Wolf is a Single Cab pickup truck with a long bed that should have a starting MSRP just below the $40,000 mark once it’s available for sale. The exact measurements of the bed are 71 inches in length, 62 inches wide, and a depth of 17 inches. Its rugged, stout design is reminiscent of an older generation of the Toyota Hilux made famous by Top Gear for pretty much being indestructible. The estimated range for the Wolf lies somewhere between 250 and 275 miles. It will be offered in trims with a single motor and RWD and dual motor AWD. Acceleration from 0-60 MPH should be 6.2 seconds according to Alpha Motor.

Refreshingly enough, the Alpha Wolf is a compact-size pickup, with a total length of 190 inches, 75 inches wide, and a height of 67 inches. It will seat two people and have 43.3 cubic feet of cargo capacity. Alpha Motor claims it will have premium interior materials and a sound system, as well as Bluetooth Connectivity. Towing capacity is expected to be 3,000 pounds.

The Alpha Wolf+ is an extended cab trim with a total length of 208 inches. Its width is the same as the Wolf at 75 inches, but its height is slightly higher at 69 inches. The bed dimensions are also different at 65 inches in length, 59 inches in width, and a depth of 18 inches. The cargo capacity is 40 cubic feet.

All Wolf models have a ‘frunk’, which is cargo space under the hood where most ICE vehicles house their engines. The Wolf+ can sit a total of 4 people, but the two sitting in the back will only have enough comfort for small trips as the seats are narrow and leg room is scarce. Nevertheless, it adds versatility to the model. The Wolf+ will only come with a dual motor, and AWD setup and should accelerate from 0-60 MPH in 5.9 seconds and have a towing capacity of 6724 pounds. There’s no info yet as to what the price of the Wolf+ should be.

At the top of the range sits the Superwolf with a crew cab, dual motor, and AWD configuration. 0-60 MPH is estimated at 6.5 seconds and towing capacity is the same as the Wolf+ at 6724 pounds. The Superwolf is the largest of the three, but it’s still a compact-sized pickup. Its total length is 214 inches, its width is 79 inches and it has a height of 69 inches. The bed dimensions and cargo capacity are also the same as the Wolf+.

The robust architecture, beautiful design, comfortable interior, and versatility for everyday use should make the Wolf Pickups strong contenders in the market. Just recently, Alpha Motor started raising money from private investors for a total of $125 million to help expedite it to production status. In the future, should the company go public, it will be able to raise much more money than that in an IPO. It looks like Alpha Motor Corporation is here to stay, and from what they’ve shown so far, that’s great news for future EV customers.
