Newer technology can sometimes feel forced. Sometimes it can even feel unnecessary. Today new vehicles are getting all their analog gauges replaced with screens. Those screens are getting bigger and bigger each year. The cars sometimes feel not built to the same standard as old, not made to last. The metals are lighter and weaker, and the cabs are filled with more and more plastic pieces. Even at times, the country where the vehicle is manufactured can raise questions. In America, people always say that being made in the U.S.A. makes it the best product you can buy.

The Ford Edge, in general, competes against models like the Acura RDX, Hyundai Santa Fe, and even the Chevy Equinox. And it competes well. But Ford has kicked things up a notch with the Edge ST by replacing the four-cylinder with a V-6 and injecting a few other performance credentials to go with it. Now, the midsize luxury SUV segment has no shortage of high-performance offerings, but the Edge ST doesn’t exactly fall into the luxury category, nor does it fit into any category really.

Blood Type Racing is returning to the SEMA Auto Show with a new creation. The noted tuner is mixing it up this year, ditching past automotive muses like the Hyundai Genesis Coupe and Ford Focus ST in favor of a Ford Edge ST. It’s a fitting challenge for Blood Type Racing; the Edge ST is the first SUV to come out of the Ford Performance team so, by default, it’s performance-ready on its own. But even that didn’t dissuade Blood Type Racing from going to work. The tuning specialist created an extensive program for the SUV, highlighted by an engine upgrade program that adds more power to a vehicle that already boasts an output of 335 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque to go with an ST-tuned suspension.

Over here in the U.S., we love our SUVs - throw in a solid dose of extra performance, like you get in an ST Ford, and we like it even more. Introduced in 2006 as a 2007 model, the Ford Edge->ke409 became an important player for Ford->ke31 in the midsize crossover SUV->ke145 category. Based on the CD3 platform shared with a number of other Blue Oval products, the Edge became a good seller, rolling over 130,000 units off dealer lots its first year alone. A refresh came for the Edge in 2011 with a reworked exterior that kept up with Ford’s then-current design language, as well as a refreshed interior. The basic bones of the CUV hadn’t really changed since 2007, but all that changes for 2015.

Ford has revealed details about the 2011 Edge crossover, a model that comes with a new exterior redesign, improved materials and interior craftsmanship, class exclusive technology and new power trains. For 2011, the Edge will be offered in three different versions including SEL, Sport and Limited. The 2011 Edge will be offered with a choice of two engines, the first being a 3.5 Liter V6 producing 285 HP and 253 lb-ft of torque, a 3.7 Liter V6 that delivers a maximum output of 305 HP and 280 lb-ft of torque and in the coming months, the Blue Oval will also offer a turbocharged 2.0 Liter EcoBoost inline four cylinder power plant.
