The new Ford Edge isn’t done making headlines. Fresh off of unveiling the 335-horsepower Edge ST at the Detroit Auto Show, the Blue Oval is following that up with the launch of a new trim package for the crossover. It’s called the Titanium Elite Package, and it’s scheduled to debut at the Chicago Auto Show this week.

The Full Story

The Ford Edge is on some kind of a roll in 2018. If the Edge ST wasn’t enough to jolt life back to the model, the arrival of a new trim package could get the job done.

The Titanium Elite Package is mostly cosmetic in nature so don’t expect any improvements in other areas. That’s not entirely a bad thing because the package's features are noteworthy in their own right. Full body color sides are notable additions. The same goes for the premium rear skid plate and the set of 20-inch wheels that no other version of the Edge will get. That’s the extent of what you’ll get if you avail of the Titanium Elite Package.

The contents aren’t that much compared to what we’ve seen from other trim packages in the past, but it does accomplish what Ford intended for it to do: give the Edge a more premium look that will satisfy the whims and preferences of potential customers. Adding variety to the crossover is a smart move on Ford’s part, especially with the Edge enjoying high sales volumes in recent years, including an eight-percent increase in high-trim sales over the past four years, including Titanium and Sport trim levels. Overall, the Edge’s sales numbers have increased by six percent for all high-trim SUVs in the company’s entire auto lineup.

That kind of success is one of the big reasons why Ford decided to turn aggressive on expanding the Edge’s lineup. The arrival of the Edge ST in Detroit was a clear announcement from Ford that the Edge is ready for primetime billing. The Chicago debut of the Edge Titanium Elite Package reinforces that sentiment.

Not bad for a crossover that’s only been on the market for 12 years.
