The future is coming fast with electric vehicles popping up left and right. With new EV models each year, we now take a look at some companies that are lagging behind and have yet to release an electric vehicle of their own as of 2022. But not to worry, car enthusiasts! Many of these brands have EVs in the works and some of them will be released as early as 2023! From Trucks to sports cars - The future is definitely electric. Just to be clear, this list comprises companies that haven't announced anything electric whatsoever, and even those that are yet to release a 'production version' of their electric concepts.
10 Ram
Ram is definitely lagging behind when it comes to producing an electric truck for the U.S. consumers. There is one in the works - the 2024 Ram 1500 EV - but it's not set to launch until 2024. Ram's electric pickup trucks are going to ride on the new STLA Frame that is fully dedicated to its incoming electric vehicle design. It will be shared with other companies under the Stellantis umbrella, too.
9 Suzuki
One would think Suzuki would have electric compact models like the Jimny or the Ignis, but so far, Suzuki is far behind other companies when it comes to making an EV. Suzuki is planning to release an EV into the Indian market in 2025 - but that's pretty far in the future, and in a specific market. It might be quite a while before we see one in the States.
8 Lincoln
With smooth rides like the Lincoln MKC, one would think that Lincoln would have an EV by now. The Lincoln folks do plan to launch an all-electric car they call the Lincoln Star, but it won't be released until 2025. Matthew McConaughey is just going to have to wait until then! In addition to the Star, Lincoln wants to build three other new EVs as well. This means that over half of its global volume will be zero-emissions vehicles with a fourth to come by the end of 2026.
7 Land Rover
Like the companies mentioned above, Land Rover has an EV coming, but not until 2024. It is then that consumers will be able to get their hands on the 2024 Land Rover Range Rover EV. The new model will have a lot of new features, including a new full-electric powertrain and an all-new chassis. It will also be based on the long-wheelbase model. This means that we will get three rows of seating - the same as the gas-powered Range Rover that is soon to be a thing of the past.
6 Alfa Romeo
Alfa Romeo is an Italian luxury car company that has made some pretty incredible cars over the years, but so far none of them have been electric. That's all about to change over the next few years. In fact, Alfa Romeo plans to become fully electric - so we can expect some pretty boss EVs to come from them in the near future. However, Alfa has been pretty tight-lipped about which EV is in the works, so we will have to keep our ear to the road for more details.
5 Dodge
Dodge, now owned by Stellantis, has unveiled its electric car of the future. Expected to come around 2024, the Charger Daytona SRT will be a fully electric version of the muscle car we all know and love. Dodge is also teaming up with Samsung to construct a $2.5 billion electric vehicle battery plant located in Kokomo, Indiana. It seems that Stellantis definitely understands the importance of future EVs and is taking its sweet time to come up with a well-rounded, well-finished product.
4 Chrysler
Here we have another company that's under the Stellantis umbrella, so we know they are making plans for EVs. Chrysler's newest model - the Chrysler Airflow - is an EV with a distinctive design. Unfortunately for buyers, it won't be released until 2025. Fun fact, the name was also used for Chrysler's old model from the 1930s. It was a cool car then and is sure to be a cool car in the future.
3 Jeep
Jeep says it will launch 4 all-electric SUVs by 2025, including Wagoneer and ‘Wrangler’ EVs. This is great news for Jeep fans who will be happy to hear they will no longer be releasing emissions as they go on and off the road. The company plans to hit 50-percent EV sales in the U.S. and 100% in Europe by 2030 - a pretty impressive claim that shows EVs are indeed the future.
2 Buick
Buick showcased its Wildcat EV Concept alongside the Buick Electra-X Concept in June 2022. Together, the two concepts demonstrate Buick's commitment to jumping on the EV bandwagon before it's too late. Similar to the Chrysler Airflow, the Wildcat EV gets its name from a series of 1950s Buick concept cars. With a name like "Wildcat" consumers are sure to be in for one helluva ride!
1 Infiniti
Infiniti has yet to release an EV into production, but that doesn't mean they are not working on one to give to the public soon. Its newest concept - the QX Inspiration - is already looking like a very cool car that is fully electric. They claim it to be "infused with Japanese DNA" and it has some very cool features that we hope to make it to production, such as the doors, which open in a whole new way compared to previous models.
