You have to be living under a rock if you don’t know that the Nissan GT-R is a very quick car, especially given its 14-year production cycle. The R35 generation continues the legacy of Godzilla by being a nightmare to supercars twice its sticker price. However, the Japanese icon is not without competition and some of it comes from the most unlikely of places. YouTube channel Sam CarLegion has pitted a 2019 Nissan GT-R against a tuned Infiniti Q60, and the results might surprise you.
The Infiniti shares an engine with the Nissan Z
It’s no secret that the Nissan Z shares the same VR30 DDTT engine with the Infiniti Q60. This Infiniti Q60 isn’t even the Red Sport version, which has 400 horsepower (294 kilowatts) and 350 pound-feet (475 Nm). Instead, it has 300 horsepower (221 kilowatts) and 295 pound-feet (400 Nm). With that said, the Infiniti has a Stage 2 tune and a few other upgrades that bring power up to 500 horsepower (368 kilowatts) and 510 pound-feet (691 Nm).
The Infiniti Q60 and the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 have already proven great platforms for high-horsepower applications. With this Q60’s power being not that far off the GT-R’s 565 horsepower (415 kilowatts) and its torque surpassing the R35’s 467 pound-feet (633 Nm), we have a proper battle on our hands. Yes, the seven-speed automatic is not a DCT like in the GT-R, but as you will see, it would not matter. Moreover, both vehicles send power to all four wheels and weigh about the same, although the Q60 is slightly heavier.
The Nissan GT-R’s strengths have always been high-speed cornering and short straightaways. While its creators made it clear that it was never designed for a high top speed, it’s still capable of nearly 200 mph (322 km/h). With that said, the Infiniti Q60 although the more luxury-oriented of the two vehicles, seems to be a better highway cruiser after the appropriate amount of power has been added. We won’t spoil the details of both the quarter-mile drag and rolling races, but we will say that if you are considering a Nissan GT-R, the video below might make you reconsider.
