Drag racing cars that aren't direct competitors may seem pointless, but it's still fun to see how these three performance vehicles stack up against one another. Sam CarLegion has arranged for a Jaguar F Type R, Audi RS5, and an Infiniti Q60RS to meet on the drag strip and exchange blows. The Infiniti is more of a guest, but it will be interesting to see how it performs, nonetheless.

The contenders

Jaguar F Type R

On paper, the Jaguar F Type R should have this one in the bag. Its 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 is not only the best-sounding engine of the bunch, but also the most powerful. It paks 575 horsepower and 516 pound-feet (700 Nm). All that is sent to all four wheels through a ZF,eight-speed automatic. The Jaguar also has a slight weight advantage over the Audi RS5 as it weighs 3,920 pounds (1,778 kg).

Audi RS5

The German premium coupe relies on a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V-6 with 444 horsepower and 442 pound-feet (600 Nm). Power is managed by the Quattro all-wheel-drive system and an eight-speed automatic. The Audi RS5 tips the scales at 3,990 pounds (1,810 kg).

Infiniti Q60 Red Sport

The Infiniti Q60RS has a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 with 400 horsepower and 350 pound-feet (475 Nm). We know the same engine is in the Nissan Z and that it responds very well to basic modifications. This one is completely stock. Power is sent to all four wheels through a seven-speed automatic. What makes matters even worse is the Inifiniti's weight. At 4,020 pounds (1,823 kg), as equipped, the Q60RS is the heaviest car here.

The races

The quarter-mile drag race

One run from a dig was done and as expected, the lightest and most powerful car - the Jaguar - won. What was more surprising is that, despite all cars being all-wheel-driven, the slightly heavier and much less powerful Audi RS5 was staying with the Jag until about halfway down the drag strip. Eventually, the more powerful F Type R pulled ahead. To no one's surprise, the Infiniti was dead last.

The rolling race

The rolling race was done from an unspecified, low-ish speed (probably around 30 mph). Infiniti Q60 Red Sport got the jump on both the Audi and the Jag, but the more powerful European and British contenders quickly overtook it. The Jaguar still won, but the Audi RS5 wasn't that far behind. Long story short, the Jaguar F Type R won all races. It also looked and sounded the best, so its triumph is complete.
