If you're a fan of muscle cars and insane power, you might have heard about the latest project by Throtl — a performance parts enterprise. They took a 2001 Dodge Viper RT/10, which already had a monstrous V10 engine under its hood, and swapped it with a supercharged 6.2-litre V-8 engine from a Dodge Hellcat Redeye. The result? A 1000-HP beast that makes the original Viper look tame.

In this case, Throtl wanted to create something unique and outrageous that would challenge conventional expectations. To see how their creation performs on the road and the track, they invited David Patterson, a.k.a ThatDudeinBlue, to take this car for a spin on a drag strip. What he experienced was a faster, louder, and more dangerous car than any Viper he had ever driven.

The Crazy Idea: Replacing A V-10 With A V-8

The Hellcat Redeye V8 engine all set to be inserted in Dodge Viper

The Dodge Viper is one of the most iconic sports cars ever made. It debuted in 1991 with an 8.0-litre V-10 engine that produced 400 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. Unfortunately, it had no ABS, traction control, or other safety systems. It was raw, brutal, and sketchy.

According to ThatDudeinBlue, half of all first-generation Vipers were totaled and had insurance claims averaging seven times higher than regular cars. The car also had poor visibility at the back and small pedal placement. It was not for the faint-hearted.

So why mess with such a legend? Well, as impressive as the V-10 engine was back then, it's not very efficient or modern compared to today's performance engines. For instance, The Hellcat Redeye produces 797 horsepower and 707 pound-feet of torque from its Supercharged 6.2-litre High-Output V-8 engine. It also has a modern ECU and fuel system that makes it easier to tune

and manage.

The Throtl team decided to swap the engines as part of a challenge by MotorTrend and Dodge's Road Kill Knights event. They had to find the cheapest Dodge Viper in the Unites States and turn it into something crazy using parts from other Dodge vehicles. They chose the Hellcat Redeye engine because it had more power potential than any other option.

The Hard Work: Making Everything Fit And Work

Swapping an engine is not an easy task, especially when dealing with two different generations of cars. So the Throtl team had to do some custom work to make everything fit and work properly.

They started by removing the original V-10 engine from the Viper RT/10 and installing custom engine mounts for the Hellcat Redeye engine. They also had to modify the clutch and flywheel to match the new transmission. They added custom Magnaflow headers for the exhaust system, giving the car an even louder roar.

The team also upgraded some other parts of the car to handle the increased power output. They installed custom coilovers for better suspension, new wheels and tires for more grip, and some cosmetic changes like decals and badges.

The whole project took them about six months to complete, but they managed to create something truly unique: a Dodge Viper Hellcat Redeye with around 1000 horsepower at the crankshaft.

The Fun Part: Driving The Monster

You might be wondering: how does this car drive? Is it faster than the original Viper? Is it more fun? Or is it more dangerous? Well, according to ThatDudeinBlue - who got to test drive this car on a drag strip, it's all of those things.

The car is insanely fast — it can go from zero to 60 mph in about three seconds (the original Viper did it in about four seconds). It can also reach speeds over 200 mph without breaking a sweat. The car is also incredibly fun — it has instant torque, responsive steering, and exhilarating acceleration. It feels like driving a rocket on wheels.

But most importantly, the car is very dangerous — it has no traction control, stability control, and ABS brakes. It also has massive amounts of power that can easily overwhelm the driver's ability to control the car.

This means that driving this car requires a lot of caution, concentration, and experience. It's not a car for beginners or the faint-hearted. It's a car for thrill-seekers willing to take risks and push their limits. It's a car that demands respect and rewards courage.
