The Lucid Air Sapphire is the ultra-high-performance variant of the existing Lucid Air model, which is extremely quick in the first place. The Sapphire will be a sports sub-brand that will showcase the technical prowess achieved by Lucid in a relatively short time frame in the industry. In fact, deciding on launching a sub-brand when the main brand is still relatively new and still settling in is a bold decision in itself by Lucid. But since they have done that, it would be interesting to see what all the Lucid Air Sapphire packs in to make it a worthy competitor to the Tesla Model S Plaid. The Lucid Air Sapphire promises a shattering performance and has many other things that make it special. Here are 10 things that make the Lucid Air Sapphire desirable.

1 The Lucid Air Sapphire Is Mind-Numbingly Quick

As expected, the Lucid Air Sapphire is extremely quick with an expected 0-60 mph time of less than two seconds and a top speed above 200 mph. The new three-motor powertrain is expected to produce a massive 1,200 horsepower. This new three-motor setup gives it an immense amount of power thereby propelling the Sapphire to illegal speeds in such a short amount of time! Good thing is, the Sapphire gets carbon ceramic brakes and bespoke Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires that allow it to come to standstill from crazy speeds without any fuss or drama and to put that massive power on the road cleanly without any effort.

2 The Sapphire Looks Striking

The Lucid Air Sapphire has a stunning silhouette that makes it stand out in a crowd and looks extremely futuristic. The low-slung look gives it an air of sportiness that usually goes down well with electric car buyers and also helps the vehicle in achieving better fuel efficiency and range thanks to the better aerodynamics achieved due to the low stance. Although looks are subjective, the Lucid Air Sapphire's looks will be liked by a majority of prospective buyers, thanks to the futuristic styling. This is enhanced by the fact that it gets super stylish and sporty wheels with a center lock. The sharp headlights give it a menacing look and those smart lines and sculpted bonnet give it immense presence when viewed head-on.

3 It Is Packed With Luxury Features

The Sapphire is packed with features that make it perfectly suitable for the tag of being a luxury saloon. The Sapphire is available with many amazing features that are usually available only in super luxury cars. To begin with, it gets no physical controls in the interior and all the controls are to be used through the huge touch screen. One high-resolution screen is for the instrumentation and other driver information while the other bigger touch screen in the center is for controlling all the car's functions like HVAC, media, etc. Although some people don't really fancy this kind of setup as it forces the driver to take his eyes off the road to adjust even the smallest of the things like the climate control system, it makes the interiors look spotless and clutter-free.

4 Lucid Air Sapphire Has Very Futuristic Interiors

The Lucid Air Sapphire will be getting a special interior theme called the Sapphire Mojave. This theme will be exclusive to the Sapphire variant and will not be available on any of the lower variants, even as an option. The Sapphire gets black leather and Alcantara seats with special sapphire blue stitching. Even the headliner and the steering wheel are covered in Alcantara suede. The blue theme is evident throughout the car right from the exterior color to the interior as well. The seats have a blue finish. Even the center console has a bluish tinge which is in line with its name, Sapphire. The sporty two-spoke steering as well is very appealing and lifts the overall cabin ambiance.

5 It Promises Superb Handling

Thanks to the low center of gravity, the Lucid Air Sapphires promises extremely reassuring handling. The batteries are designed and placed in such a way that they bring down the center of gravity and hence allow the Sapphire to offer a leech-like grip and handling. The Sapphire also receives a stiffer suspension setup that massively improves the handling as compared to the standard Air. Moreover, the already existing Air is a brilliant handler in itself and hence, a massive improvement over that in the Sapphire is a huge achievement in itself. The batteries are placed on the floor of the chassis and hence, the heaviest part of the powertrain lies at the lowest point thereby bringing the center of gravity down and making the car more stable and a capable handler.

6 Extremely Low Coefficient Of Drag

The Lucid Air Sapphire has a coefficient of drag of just 0.21, which makes it one of the slipperiest cars on sale today. This also aids the acceleration, top speed, and range positively thereby making it that much faster. This also gives it the capability to reach speeds over 200 mph with relative ease. These brilliant aerodynamics play a huge role especially when speeds increase and help Lucid to eke out just that much higher top speed from the incredible machine. Moreover, fluid aerodynamics also aid the range of vehicles and this is even more crucial in electric vehicles due to the associated range anxiety. Although Lucid hasn't yet given out an official range number for the Air Sapphire.

7 The Air Sapphire Offers Bi-directional Charging Capability

With some upcoming software updates, Lucid is going to enable the function that would allow it to be used as a generator and could theoretically power a home using the car’s power. This would make it extremely versatile by allowing the owners to power their appliances when they don’t have access to power. As of now, this capability is also possessed by the likes of the Ford F-150 Lightning EV. It's really nice to see this feature here as well. This will make it versatile when touring long distances which is very likely given the high expected range of the Sapphire. Given the large battery capacity, the output given by the battery would be more than enough to run a small camping setup, which the prospective owners would love.

8 It Comes Standard With DreamDrive Pro

DreamDrive is Lucid’s speak for semi-autonomous driving. This comes as standard in the Sapphire while it is available as an option in the lower and cheaper variants of the Air. This makes it on par with the Tesla Model S Plaid, which also gets the semi-autonomous driving tech and is in fact famous for it. The Sapphire variant comes with the DreamDrive Pro which is the most advanced semi-autonomous driving tech from Lucid. It's good to know that this feature is standard on the top-spec Sapphire and not optional instead. It uses a slew of sensors along with LIDAR to keep a check on the surroundings and steer, accelerate, or decelerate the vehicle accordingly without any driver input whatsoever. However, it is still only semi-autonomous, and hence, it is always recommended to keep an eye on the road to keep the vehicle in human control. However, having these luxurious features as standard makes the vehicle just that much more desirable.

Lucid says that the Air Sapphire will come in at $249,000, which is significantly more expensive than even the Tesla Model S Plaid. However, Lucid is confident that the Sapphire will have takers even at this price considering the exclusivity that it would offer to the prospective owners. Despite the price, the Sapphire has been generating immense interest among prospective buyers, and accordingly, Lucid has now decided to up their production capacity to meet the expected demand. And if the strong demand for the Tesla Model S Plaid is anything to go by, Lucid better be prepared to handle a high volume of customers. This price is significantly more than the rivals but Lucid is confident that they would be able to find takers for this exclusively crafted variant of the already famous Lucid Air.

10 Experience It In A Studio And Buy It Online

Interestingly, Lucid doesn’t have any dealerships as such. Instead, they have something called Studios in all major cities of the United States, where one can experience Lucid vehicles in person and then initiate the buying process online. This model is pretty new and customers might take a few years to adjust to it. All these studios are owned and operated by Lucid themselves and hence, completely avoid the dealership part from the supply chain. This also enables the prospective customers to avoid going to a dealership altogether and they can book their Lucid right from their homes and have them home delivered without the need to go anywhere even once. Of late, more and more manufacturers have talked about adopting this way of selling cars, however, Lucid is leading the way by actually adopting it pretty quickly. However, customers are appreciating this model as the studios are designed beautifully and make for a pleasant experience while buying the car.
