Lucid has long been a name in the electric vehicle market but for a long time that's all they were, just a name. Then on 31st December 2022, Lucid finally started delivering the Air All-Wheel Drive models to awaiting customers. Now, customers who ordered the Lucid Air Pure rear-wheel drive version, the base model of the Lucid Air, are being contacted by Lucid to start configuring their models, signaling that delivery of the rear-wheel drive Lucid Air Pure might be happening sooner rather than later.

There are many dual-motor models on sale, but details about the single-motor RWD model until now were sparse. Recent reports suggest that the rear-wheel drive Pure model will be no slouch, producing 430 horsepower with 406 pound-feet of torque with a 406-mile range and a 0-60 time of 4.4 seconds. Those numbers seem pretty comparable to the base all-wheel-drive model. While the all-wheel drive model starts at $92,500, the rear-wheel drive Pure can save those who don't require all-wheel drive about $5,000, starting at $87,400. These prices are still on the higher side when compared to most mainstream cars on sale today, even electric cars, but for the luxury and technology that Lucid offers, the rear-wheel drive Pure model seems to be a pretty good bargain.

The Lucid Air runs on a 900-volt architecture, a sophisticated system not found in other EVs so far. This allows the Lucid Air to achieve such outstanding range figures from the EPA test cycles. With the Air Pure rear-wheel drive clocking in at 406 miles of range based on the EPA test cycle, many who don't require all-wheel drive models will question whether is it worth the extra price just to gain 4 miles of range and half a second quicker 0-60 acceleration. The Lucid Air Pure features Lucid's long-range battery pack consisting of 18 modules, versus the 22 modules found in the Lucid Air extended-range battery pack. Thanks to that 900-volt architecture, the Lucid Air Pure can add about 200 miles of range with just a quick 15-minute charge at a 250-kilowatt charger. Customers who place an order for their Lucid Air Pure before June 30th 2023 will receive a complimentary year of charging at all Electrify America stations. However, it does come with the caveat of "for reasonable personal use," which Lucid so far has not elaborated on what it means. With many new electric vehicles making their way onto the streets seemingly every day, Lucid plans to offer a trim of the Air with an outstanding range and revolutionary technology to try and stand out from what is quickly becoming a crowded electric vehicle market.
