In the full-size luxury electric SUV market, there aren’t many options besides the super-popular Tesla Model X and the recently debuted Mercedes-Benz EQB. However, a third contender from the house of Lucid will soon join the battle. The first official teaser photos of Gravity dropped in November 2022, and since then, the curiosity surrounding this electric SUV has peaked relatively high. However, following the teaser, Lucid did not disclose any information on the powertrain, overall range, or interior tech.

Although it is intended to compete directly against the already popular Tesla Model X, it seems to possess a full-size SUV stance, as evident from the prototype photos. Lucid promises to bring outstanding performance and better electric range with the Gravity. The Air has succeeded in Lucid's quest to outperform Tesla with its gigantic performance and better build quality. Therefore, the Gravity will undoubtedly be a thrilling SUV with much more than the Air. So will it emerge as the ultimate luxury electric SUV and surpass the Model X?

10 The Lucid Gravity Will Mirror The Design Of The Air

If you admire understated designs, you will love how the Lucid Air looks. Those sleek LED lights on both the front and rear are genuinely magnificent. However, to keep the vibes intact, Lucid decided to implement a similar design to its upcoming SUV, following in the footsteps of Tesla. The teaser images confirm that Lucid’s forthcoming full-size SUV will have a matching LED headlight and taillight setup from the Air. However, there are some distinctive elements, such as the shorter bonnet, a noticeably taller stance, the rear roof spoiler, and the footprint of a sizable SUV.

9 It Will Be Offered In Two- And Three-Row Styles

One of the most noteworthy positives about the Gravity would be its practical cabin, which holds enough space to squeeze up to seven people inside. One of the photos from the teaser release confirms that the Gravity will debut with seven seats, including two captain’s chairs in the middle row. The photo also ensures that the middle-row seats have heavy side bolsters and can be reclined with retractable under-thigh support for maximum comfort. Compared to the Model X and the EQB, the setup is segment-first. In addition, the Gravity is expected to possess a slightly spacious cabin and will be offered in five or even six-seater configurations for maximum versatility.

Lucid Motors is not just about luxury and green mobility. The super-capable Air Sapphire, buckling up for its debut sometime in 2023, could yield more than 1,200 horsepower from a new tri-motor powertrain. Since Lucid’s Senior Vice President of Design stated that “it (Gravity) is both a supercar in disguise and an SUV with flexible passenger and cargo space,” it wouldn’t be offbeat to expect those massive figures. However, the base Lucid Gravity will probably incorporate the 800-horsepower dual-motor powertrain with the larger 112 kWh battery pack, and the ludicrous 1,000+ horsepower would be reserved for the top-spec models.

7 Expect A Range Of More Than 400 Miles

Lucid’s advanced electric motors and battery technology are a step ahead regarding efficiency. The Grand Touring variant of the Air is the most efficient model in the lineup and can deliver up to a whopping 516 miles, thanks to the 112 kWh Long Range battery pack. However, given that the Gravity will be much heavier than the Air, we can expect about 450 miles of range with the 112 kWh battery pack. As a result, the Gravity would be more suitable for range-anxious folks than the Model X.

6 A Spacious, Airy Cabin Like The Lucid Air

Lucid’s approach regarding cabin design is a minimalist’s dream. Like the Air sedan, the Gravity will exhibit a vast panoramic sunroof, and the glass area is more extensive than even the Model X. An interior shot from the teaser confirms that. To be precise, not many structures will hamper your view of the sky. In addition, the glass roof is almost seamless, which makes the cabin airier. Compared to the early test prototype from 2020, the teaser's concept has no visible roof antenna.

5 The Lucid Gravity Is Expected To Sport A Tech-Laden Cabin

Aiming at the heart of the SUV market the Gravity is all set to bring a new trend into the segment. With the Gravity SUV, we expect first-class tech and creature comforts that are more advanced than the Air sedan. However, the giant 34-inch floating dashboard display and the retractable center console display will unlikely be carried over to the Gravity, because Lucid has something ridiculous in its mind: “It will also feature the next-generation Glass Cockpit high-resolution displays.” In addition, Lucid has confirmed that the user interface will feature the next-gen Lucid UX software.

Lucid’s upcoming super-sophisticated DreamDrive Pro suite is the next significant step towards a Level 3 semi-autonomous driving system. The DreamDrive Pro is designed to evolve and add more functions over time. The system comprises 32 high-end sensors, which include 14 cameras, one LiDAR, five radars, and 12 ultrasonic devices. In addition, Lucid’s proprietary dual-rail power system and Ethernet Ring provide a high level of redundancy for vehicle-related control, such as steering and braking. The DriveDrive Pro is promised with the Air Dream Edition and Grand Touring, but since the Gravity is yet to be debuted, the Level 3 ADAS could make its way into Lucid’s upcoming SUV.

3 It Will Go Up Against The Tesla Model X Head-On

Gravity vs Model X

A side-by-side of the upcoming Lucid Gravity and the Tesla Model X

Being a full-size SUV, the Gravity is destined to be a Model X killer. However, right from the vehicle size and the impressions gathered from the teaser images, the Gravity is more inclined toward the Cadillac Escalade because of its boxy design. In addition, the Gravity could be more spacious and practical inside the cabin than the Model X, which is a five-seater by default. Also, the Gravity is expected to possess bonkers performance which could be a nightmare for the Model X.

2 The Gravity Will Be One Of The Most Expensive Electric SUVs

Being a luxury electric SUV, the Gravity will be priced relatively higher than its competition. Its stablemate, the Air sedan, starts at about $78,000 and goes up to $170,000 without shipping charges. However, the starting price of the Gravity will be around $100,000, given that it is an SUV and will sport extensive luxury and electronic features. In addition, the more performance models could boast up to $150,000, which would make it even more expensive than the Model X Plaid. Nevertheless, the Lucid Gravity will justify its higher price tag. According to Lucid’s Senior VP of Design, “I’m so thrilled with the results we are seeing with Lucid Gravity, sparing no opportunity to build on everything we learned with Lucid Air to create something that warps the vehicle-class continuum.”

Lucid Motor’s first-ever electric SUV, the Gravity, will premiere in 2024. However, the booking process will resume in Spring 2023. The Gravity SUV is still in development, and the California-based EV firm is taking all the time it needs to fine-tune its next venture. Currently, Lucid is being secretive about the specs of the Gravity, but the company will make more revelations later in 2023.
