Lamborghini-inspired custom Harley-Davidsons are no breaking news. We’ve already seen a Sportster pay homage to the iconic Murcielago, and an FXDR flaunt Lambo badges from head to toe. So when we read Italian bikemaker Hazard Motorcycles whipped up a Lambo-based custom Sportster, it didn’t really excite us. Little did we know, the inspiration didn't come from a supercar, but the Lamborghini Riva Aquarama–one of the most exquisite boats in the world.
A Brief History Lesson About The Lamborghini Riva Aquarama
Riva is a premium yacht maker, headquartered in Sarnico, Italy. Back in the day, however, the company specialized in wooden boats. One of its finest models was the Aquarama, sold between 1962 and 1996, which was so good, not even Ferruccio Lamborghini could resist it. Albeit with a special, though. According to the history books, Mr Lamborghini didn’t want the American-made V8 engines on his boat, and instead, sent two V12 engines from the 350 GT. Thus, came to life the Lamborghini Riva Aquarama, the fastest Aquarama ever.
Custom Harley-Davidson Sportster By Hazard Motorcycles
Coming to the motorcycle, the Aquarama roots become evident from the get-go. The design is arguably the protagonist here, with the bespoke front fairing, fuel tanks, and oil tanks. These are all shaped from metal, but the fairing has a generous helping of premium mahogany, just like the boat. Similarly, the fairing’s white and aqua-blue finish, along with the blue leather saddle also shout Aquarama.
And things only get better when you dive deeper. Look closely, and you’ll notice a Harley-Davidson Ironhead engine (borrowed from a 1981 Sportster) peaking behind the fairing. The engine now features two Weber carbs - achieved by rotating the front cylinder - and a deep blue finish, both to mimic the Aquarama’s powerhouse. On the inside, it has upgraded cams, S&S pistons, and an electric gearshift system to let you change gears with handlebar buttons. The exhaust system, meanwhile, comprises two super-short chrome pipes.
Besides this, the motorcycle has a bespoke, stretched-out chassis, carved by hand. This, paired with the shortened spring fork up top and the 16-inch solid rear wheel, creates a drag bike-like silhouette, which celebrates the boat’s speed. And when powering through, a front drum brake and a rear disc brake will help you shed speed.
Can You Buy This Custom Sportster?
Sadly, the shop hasn’t shed much light on the matter. So we suggest you get in touch with Hazard Motorcycles for further discussion. Just don’t keep a lot of hope because the motorcycle has won multiple awards at motorcycle shows, which suggests it must already have plenty of offers. Not to mention, such an exquisite piece of art rarely comes cheap.
