The Indian FTR has proved to be more than a useful platform when it comes to customizing motorcycles. So far, we have seen all kinds of interpretations of that popular model. There have been FTRs as flat-trackers, dirt bikes, café racers, naked bikes, enduro bikes… you name it. One thing that is rarely seen though, is a sport-bike vision of the FTR. And if you are going down that road, you might as well make something truly unique. This one is called the Black Swan and it comes from Workhorse Speed Shop, a small garage in Wavre, Belgium.

The Indian FTR 1200 S comes with some seriously impressive numbers. The engine is a liquid-cooled 1203cc V-twin that produces 120 horsepower at 7750 rpm and 87 foot-pounds of torque at 6000 rpm. Smooth, refined, yet performance-oriented with instant power delivery and plenty of torque. Therefore, the engine was left more or less intact.

The biggest change is the bodywork. The front fairing, fuel tank cover, and the tail section are all made out of carbon fiber. The parts were created with modeling clay at first, then 3D printed by a Belgian company called 13.8 Composites. They managed to make all the bodywork and keep its weight under 4 lbs.

That carbon fiber bodywork isn’t all that was made for this project. That is where Vinco Racing came in. The company specializes in the manufacturing and design of racing components. The aluminum fuel tank, the belly pan (for better aerodynamics and to protect the exhaust manifolds), a new swing-arm, an aluminum racing yoke, and a chassis reinforcement plate all came from them. As if this wasn’t enough, some pretty big names made one-of-a-kind parts for the Black Swan too. The exhaust comes from Akrapovič, and it is not something you can just pick out of their catalog either, this exhaust system was tailor-made for the project. The suspension comes from Öhlins, naturally.

Next up, the wheels. Rotobox Bullet forged carbon wheels are yet another weight saving measure, and they are wrapped in Dunlop Sportmax GP Racer tires. To stop the Black Swan, Beringer provided a unique braking system that is based on their MX discs which uses their patented ultra-light Aerotec technology. This is truly a one of a kind Indian ready to slay any track.
