The previous-generation Harley-Davidson Breakout had no shortage of fans, yet the MoCo took it off American shelves in 2020. In the meantime, the FXBR fan club grew ever stronger in Europe, especially in the custom cruiser scene. So much so that Germany’s Thunderbike has a GP-style custom option dedicated to the cruiser. And today, we’ll be checking out the newest entrant in this lineup–a custom Breakout replete with truckloads of gold and even more trick components.

The single-sided swingarm gives you a splendid view of the custom rear wheel

One of the USPs of the Breakout is its unmatched long, low stance, and we’re happy to report that it has only gotten better here. Credit goes to the revamped underpinnings, most of which are concentrated outback. For starters, the stock rear wheel, subframe, and swingarm all make their way to the parts bin. In turn, the cruiser motorcycle switches to a custom gold wheel (with a 260-section tire), paired with a svelte single-sided swingarm which gives a distraction-free view of the alloy. The swingarm also houses a custom pulley (finished in gold) and a Buell-like perimeter disc for an added rear bite. All this is rounded off by an air ride suspension - hidden under the custom fender - that lets you drop or raise the ride height on command.

At the opposite end, the stock telescopic forks have made way for fully adjustable Bitubo units. These latch onto a 23-inch custom wheel, clamped by 340 mm dual petal rotors and Brembo monobloc calipers. No points for guessing the finish here, as the inner fork tubes and wheels are both..you guessed it..golden. Meanwhile, a closer look up top reveals a custom fender, and milled triple-clamp. The latter, coupled with the clip-on handlebar, aftermarket foot controls, and the custom leather saddle (yes, with gold stitching), should amplify the Breakout’s riding dynamics.

Unlike most aspects, the M8 V-twin has remained mostly unchanged

Coming to aesthetics, Thunderbike has wrapped the custom cruiser in a white-grey livery, complete with subtle graphics all around. And if you dig brawn, you’d surely drool over the belly shroud and the small-but-sporty headlight cowl. The headlight itself, however, remains stock which is one giveaway of the FXBR. In addition, there are plenty of nitty-gritty updates - custom levers, master cylinder, mirrors, LED indicators, knurled grips - all put in place to amp up the attention to detail.

Finally, the FXBR continues to employ its Milwaukee Eight 114 V-twin engine that produces 119 pound-feet in its stock avatar. This example will have more grunt, though, courtesy of the full-system exhaust and Screamin’ Eagle air filter. Oh, and to no one’s surprise, the exhaust has gold inserts to complement all other golden components.
