Located in Malibu, California, Sondors is an American company that makes electric bikes and motorcycles. With a lineup composed of 4 electric bikes and 1 electric motorcycle, the Sondors Metacycle, the company offers affordable two-wheeled mobility options for a variety of uses. After a series of ups and downs, the company finally started to deliver the Metacycle at an affordable price of $6,500.

What has got people excited about them though is the fact that the company is planning for a whole range of affordable electric motorcycles (not just bicycles) and intends to go public. Sondors has already made its Security and Exchange Commission filings for an IPO and have been striving to be more transparent and responsive to its potential customers and future shareholders. To put the Metacycle price into perspective, Harley-Davidson’s LiveWire One has a suggested MSRP of $22,799. That is a premium electric motorcycle, with more of everything, but the market stretches from low to high price ranges, and it’s undeniable that just as there are people interested in affordable ICE motorcycles, there are those interested in affordable electric motorcycles too.

The Sondors Metacycle Is The Most Capable Street Bike From The Brand

The Sondors Metacycle seems to be aimed at daily commuters with its claimed range of 60 miles, going up to 80 in ideal conditions. This suits the average commute in the US to and from work reasonably well, while the Metacycle can be recharged at home overnight. As affordable as it may seem, the Sondors Metacycle is the ‘Model S’ of Sondors. It’s currently its most expensive product, and it looks like they’re using Tesla’s initial strategy of selling a more profitable product to finance other less expensive ones down the line. That’s where the bicycle lineup from Sondors comes in, but there is also the money that would be raised in an IPO to help Sondors achieve their goals.

The Metacycle is the equivalent of a small displacement ICE motorcycle. It has a claimed 20 horsepower and 80 pound-feet of torque. Its top speed in ‘drive’ mode is 60 MPH and 80 MPH in ‘sport’ mode. Since the Metacycle has no gears, both brakes are on the levers, and with its 4 kWh battery, small electric motor, and cast aluminum frame, it has a curb weight of about 300 pounds. One interesting feature is that the small 4 kWh battery can be pulled out and swapped by a fully charged one if the rider has a spare available. Either that or the rider can simply pull the battery out when he gets to his or her destination and charge it via a standard 110V AC charger where it can be fully replenished in 4 hours.

The other products Sondors has to offer the market in the future are eBikes (electric bicycles). These are also fit for inner city commuting or just leisure, but they require a bit more engagement from the riders as they are at their core simply bicycles, albeit specially designed ones, with the addition of an electric powertrain. Their All Terrain eBikes kick off this line with models ranging from $2,259 to $2,999 depending on the model chosen. The base model has a 500W motor while the other two trims have a 750W motors. All of them use 48V batteries and have a range between 40 and 60 miles.

The Foldable eBike Is Their Most Versatile Product

Next up are Sondors Foldable eBikes. Starting at just $1,699, these provide versatility by being able to fold up to a compact size, and easy to store or carry inside the trunk of a car, for example. Their versatility is their greatest appeal. Having a compact, foldable eBike for that last leg of your commute as you park your car on the outskirts of town, a couple of miles away from your workplace can come in handy, or carrying it with you on the train until you are near your destination.

Sondors base Mountain eBike features front shocks just like most regular mountain bikes, and it’s priced at $2,699. It has a 750W motor, a 48v 17.5 Ah battery, a range between 40 and 60 miles, and a top speed of up to 20 MPH. The more expensive trim also features rear suspension and comes in at $3,499.

Sondors Signature eBikes Are For Those Wanting To Make A Statement

The last model line presented is the Signature eBikes at $3,499. These are the Sondors Cruiser and Sondors MadMods. These are also supposed to be all-terrain "SUVs" and have a 21Ah battery. Motor and range are the same as the Mountain eBikes, while the top speed goes as high as 28 MPH on the Cruiser. The Sondors MadMods has three different style kits available which are Café, Retro, and Scrambler.

For the foreseeable future, Sondors will be working on an electric dirt bike which they teased recently, saying it's coming soon. It will be interesting to see if they manage to keep their affordability approach for a bike that should perform more aggressively if it's indeed meant to compete with regular dirt bikes. Being a motorcycle rather than a bicycle will mean they’ll get to use the Metacycle powertrain for a sharper off-road experience. The price range could potentially be a bit higher than the Metacycle, but it could still be worth it for the fun, ease of use, and low maintenance.
