Range anxiety is a prevalent concern in the electric bike space. Most offerings run out of juice at 70-odd miles with pedal assist and a measly 25–30 miles on full power, which means a single charge barely lasts a week (for an average 10-mile commute a day). But Erik Buell is here to save the day. The American engineer has launched two new electric bikes–Fuell Flluid 2S and 3S–with the former offering an insane 225-mile maximum range. Not only is that almost good enough to take you from LA to Las Vegas, but Buell also claims this is the world’s most frugal e-bike yet.
The Fuell Flluid 2S Has A 2kWh Battery Pack
Defined as an “ultra-long-range powerhouse”, the Flluid 2S employs two removable 1kWh battery packs (each with a six-hour charge time), housed in the top and down tubes. This is mated to a throttle-enabled 750W mid-drive motor, sourced from Valeo. Together, these enable a 225-mile range in the low assist mode, whereas the full-EV mode allows a still-impressive 115-mile range with a 28mph top speed. Not to mention, the claimed 130Nm (95.9 pound-feet) means enough grunt for city commutes.
In the meantime, the Flluid 3S serves as a step-through variant of the 2S. Since there’s no top chassis tube here, it has a 1kWh battery which enables a 110-mile range in low assist mode and a 60-mile range in full-EV mode. The top speed, motor power, and torque remain the same as the 2S, just like the Gates Carbon belt-drive system, complete with a seven-speed automatic shifter.
The Fuell Flluid 2S Has Likable Features
Like the range, the Flluid duo scores well in the features department too. The bikemaker has equipped them with LED lights, fenders, a luggage rack, and an LCD that’s laden with smartphone connectivity. Once connected, the Fuell app lets you remote lock/unlock, track location, and see statistics of your e-bike. Also part of the package is a set of telescopic forks up top and single disc brakes on each of the 27.5-inch wheels. Meanwhile, Pirelli cycle tires help ensure the utmost grip.
Fuell Flluid 2S And 3S Begin From $3,699 (For Now)
Given the specs, the two Flluid e-bikes clearly belong to the upper tier of the e-bike world, and they’re priced like it too. The Flluid 2S retails at $5,999 while the 3S bears a $5,499 price tag. However, the bikemaker has a 35 percent discount as we speak, which brings the price down to $3,899 and $3,599, provided you put in a $30 deposit. That’s a solid deal if you ask us, more so, because Fuell has previously delivered on its promises, unlike other EV startups.
