Nearly all brands have now come up with at least one electric vehicle in their lineup. There is no guarantee that the future is electric; however, manufacturers are trying to get to know this new technology better just in case vehicles of the future do end up as EVs. Infiniti, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to pay attention to modern car trends. As you may be aware, Infiniti is a brand that has been silent lately. With a lineup mostly composed of old models, the company has sort of begun a downhill slumber towards failure which is only being exaggerated by its lack of electric vehicle efforts. Infiniti is one of the very few mainstream brands that hasn’t come up with an electric vehicle yet. If the company wants to survive in the upcoming years, some drastic measures will need to be taken.

Being a full-size SUV underpinning the Armada’s bones, the QX80 is a full-fledged luxury offering from Infiniti. It features a powerful V-8, fully independent suspension, a plush interior, and even loads of convenience features to make up for its dated architecture. We reviewed the Lexus GX earlier, and it confirmed that the body-on-frame chassis-based SUVs aren’t that bad. Same with the QX80, which is heavily based on Nissan’s Armada, while being about $20,000 more expensive. After skipping the 2021 model year update, Infiniti recently introduced the 2022 QX60 mid-size SUV. It comes with a whole lot of updates and feels quite modern overall. It retains the same engine, but it’s now mated to a nine-speed automatic gearbox instead of the lousy CVT. The SUV features a front-wheel-drive layout as standard, but an all-wheel-drive system is also available on all the trims. Infiniti has also introduced a new top-of-the-line trim called Autograph that feels plush and luxurious. As for the pricing, the starting price is up by a couple of thousands. The 2022 QX60 starts at around $47,000 and goes all the way up to $63,000.

Just because you’re one of the best in the world at hitting threes in the NBA, that doesn’t mean you automatically become a good, even decent, car designer. Stephen Curry is living proof of that. The two-time NBA MVP, who also happens to be a brand ambassador for Infiniti, “designed” this concept monstrosity known as the Infiniti QXzero Concept. It’s an ugly concept, and that’s putting it lightly. The good news is that this isn’t an actual showpiece Infiniti; it’s part of an elaborate prank that Curry and Infiniti pulled on one of the MVP’s best friends, COSeezy. So while it is a bit of a relief to learn that Curry’s automotive design chops weren’t at all compromised by this horrendous three-wheeled showcase of ugliness, the QXzero Concept is still a reminder to all of us that just because there’s a “concept” designation attached to it, that doesn’t mean it’s going to be any good, even if it's all part of an elaborate jig.

The Infiniti QX80 isn’t exactly a spring chicken. If you count the three years that it was on the market as the “QX56,” this full-size SUV has been on the market for nearly a decade. This is a rather long lifestyle for an SUV in today’s automotive climate, but the QX80 is a very niche vehicle; not in size and purpose but in terms of sales for the brand. When you look at overall sales of the QX80, the figures don’t look that great. In 2016, Chevy sold more than 103,000 Tahoes, and even Cadillac sold some 23,000 examples of the Escalade. The QX80, though? Infiniti moved just 14,085 over all of 2016, and that was an 8.3-percent increase over 2015. With that in mind, the company can’t exactly give it a short lifespan like other automakers can their full-sized, wide-selling SUVs.

Developed as a sports sedan that showcases Infiniti’s push towards electrification, the Qs Inspiration Concept is a sign that Infiniti’s not just talking the talk when it comes to its electrification plans, it’s provided us with a physical example of what we can look forward to in the future. More importantly, the Qs Inspiration won’t stay a concept for long; Infiniti has plans to build a production model in China, for the Chinese market. It’s all part of the automaker’s goal to offer a diverse lineup of electrified models in the world’s biggest car market. The Qs Inspiration Concept is the first step in achieving that goal.

The Infiniti QX50 has been around since 2013 but drove straight into its second generation for the 2019 model year. The second-generation QX50 does look sportier, and it does feature better interior materials, but the real news in the VC-Turbo engine under the hood. This is Inifinities prized variable compression engine that is supposed to provide impressive performance along with superb fuel economy. And, it’s all controlled depending on input from the driver. When economy is desired, and the engine is under light load, the engine runs at high compression to cut fuel usage but, if you put your foot through the floor, compression will drop to as low as 8:1 and you’ll get fairly decent performance – almost like feelings Honda’s V-TEC kick in. We got to spend a week with a $55,000 version of the QX50 and, while we weren’t extremely impressed with it, we didn’t exactly hate it either. The Infiniti QX Inspiration is a concept SUV that the premium firm unveiled at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show. The QX Inspiration is part of a series of Inspiration vehicles that already includes a sedan and another SUV, and it previews an upcoming crossover that will feature an all-electric drivetrain. Unlike the QX Sport Inspiration, which was based on a production SUV, the QX Inspiration boasts a unique design that will likely trickle down into upcoming crossovers. The Infiniti Black S Prototype is proof that the technological divide between production vehicles and Formula One race cars is shrinking. The Hong Kong-based luxury brand of Nissan unveiled a modified version of the coupe at a private party in Paris, showcasing a hybrid electric powertrain developed by the Renault Sport Formula One team. The concept isn’t earmarked for production — not yet, at least — but it does offer a glimpse of Infiniti’s goal to use hybrid and electric powertrains on all of its models by 2021.

For the longest time, the Infiniti QX80 suffered from a design that made it look like it preferred to be sleeping in a hammock than being out and about in the road. The refreshed 2018 model fixed some of those issues with new headlamps and a more upright profile, but there’s still something about the full-sized SUV’s design that lacks the personality that’s evident in the QX60 and QX70. Well, in times like this, the solution may not be found with the automaker itself, but rather, in the aftermarket tuning world. The Infiniti QX80 was birthed into the world back in 2004 as the QX56. It went through a generational change in 2010 and in 2014 it went through a mid-cycle overhaul and received the QX80 name to go with Infiniti’s new naming structure. Even with the facelift taking place just a few years ago, the QX80 is rather dated for such an overpopulated segment. We were hoping to see a new model for 2018, but instead, Infiniti has been busy working on the QX80 Monograph – a design study that basically displays how the QX80 could evolve in the future. For now, there’s only one image to go by, and it does have an evolutional look to it, but it’s also just as boxy so it’s not quite as modern as some would expect.

It’s no secret the QX50 hasn’t exactly lived up to the expectations that Infiniti set for it, ultimately prompting an intensive update for the 2016 model year. Come 2017, and we were staring the Infiniti QX50 concept in the face at the Detroit Auto Show. Only a couple months have passed since then, and now we’re looking at spy shots of the first prototype of the next-gen QX50 putting in work on public roads. While it’s heavily covered in camo and padding, we can still make out some styling cues, and as luck would have it, it looks like it will get at least some of the design DNA we saw in the QX50 concept. Of course, it won’t have those cool electronic door poppers and the overall styling will be toned down a bit, but it should be a huge departure from the current model and could very well give the SUV a chance at survival in an overcrowded market.

The Infiniti Q50 hit the market for the 2014 model year, and just two years later, Infiniti refreshed it for the 2016 model year. Well, instead of ushering in a new generation, Infiniti has decided to do another mild update for the 2018 model year, which includes a slightly different look outside, a revamped interior, and some new driver assistance features not previously available. Engine options include a 2.0-liter gasoline mill, a 2.2-liter turbodiesel, the 3.5-liter V-6, and a hybrid setup that combines a 3.5-liter V-6 and a 50-kW electric motor – giving the car a power output range of anywhere between 168 horsepower and 400 horsepower. The Q50 also makes use of Direct Adaptive Steering, a feature that Infiniti says is a “key building block to achieving fully-autonomous driving.” But, what is more important, is that each trim level will have its own stand-alone features and styling that will help it stand out in the lineup.

Infiniti introduced the second-generation Q60 Coupe at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show looking nearly identical to the concept that previewed it the year before. It comes to the market for 2017 with bold and aggressive styling, better efficiency over the outgoing model, and a revised suspension system, among other things. Its revised drivetrain includes two different engines with output ranging from 208 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque all the way up to 400 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. Unfortunately, the Q60 lost the available option of a manual transmission, leaving just a seven-speed automatic to mate with all engine options.

One of Infiniti's newest nameplates, the Q50 was launched for the 2014 model year and it has already received a facelift for 2016. Changes included minor nips and tucks, a new adaptive steering, and a Red Sport 400 trim with more power and aggressive looks. Alongside the in-house made 3.0-liter V-6 and hybrid drivetrains, the Q50 also uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gas unit and a 2.1-liter diesel engine, both borrowed from Mercedes-Benz. At the 2017 Chicago Auto Show, Infiniti introduced the Signature Edition, a limited-edition model based on the 3.0t trim.

Infiniti just debuted the QX50 crossover concept at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show last week, and in case you didn’t get the memo, it’s a mid-size SUV with sleek styling and a few interesting autonomous driving tricks. Infiniti has announced the 2017 model year will bring a host of updates for its popular QX60.
